Product Sizes GEM comes in a number of sizes, all of which are functionally identical. The size merely limits the number of 'Records' that can be stored. When the system first starts it counts the number of Organisations and People that have Addresses, plus other 'Entity Types' like Projects that it contains. (Departments within an Organisation at the same Address and Staff without Home contact details are therefore not included.) If the licence maximum is exceeded, it allows the Client 30 days in which to prune out any 'dead wood', or licence the next size larger.
Purchase Clients who purchase a copy of GEM will own a license to use the software originally purchased in perpetuity. They will, however, need to pay for upgrades to new versions when they are released.
Software Assurance If a Client wishes to avoid the need to pay for future upgrades, they can purchase 'Software Assurance'. This entitles them to all future upgrades to the modules they have purchased with an annual premium paid in advance by direct debit.
Lease Clients can also lease GEM for a minimum period of a year, with either annual or monthly payments in advance by direct debit. Clients who lease GEM will not own a license to use the software at the end of the license period. Leased copies will cease to operate at the end of the year - unless payment for the following year is received. Leasing includes 'Software Assurance'.
Converting from a Lease to a Purchase Clients who lease GEM may terminate the lease early if they wish to purchase GEM in the first twelve month period of leasing GEM. A credit may be given at the discretion of On2itSoftware for the lease payments already made at the time GEM is purchased, the value of which shall be determined by On2itSoftware upon application by the client.
