GEM works like the REAL-WORLDIf something exists only once in the real-world then GEM stores its data only once. GEM remembers who else shares the same information instead. This enables GEM to behave very intuitively, as it works in the same way as the ‘Real-World’. For example:• Changing an employer’s phone number automatically changes the work Contact number of everyone who works there, and • Changing someone’s home phone number, automatically changes the home number for everyone who lives at the same address This is what happens in the real-world - but other computer systems just don’t do it! Why? GEM can even: • Recognise who lives with whom and who they work for, from their phone numbers, • Tell what Sex people are from their First Names, and • Deduce who is related to whom from their Parents and Partners. This means you have less work to do in maintaining your system, as: • one change anywhere in the system automatically changes everything affected, • and you don’t have to remember who else is affected - as the system remembers it for you. It also means you can find someone if you can remember their relationship to someone else – even if you can’t remember their name. |
