Answer

Legally, whenever you purchase software you are purchasing a licence to use the software. You don’t own the source code or copyright to the software.

GEM is available on a license basis, with a choice of whether you want to pay an ongoing upgrade and maintenance fee. GEM is available as:

FREE trial software - a full working version of GEM is available for a 30 Day FREE Trial.
  • Download off the internet – having broadband will make this much easier
  • Demonstration/Installation CD – if you don’t have broadband and prefer the physical CD. Includes software, Quick Start Guide, System Overview, Video Demonstrations and User Manual. A small handling charge applies in this instance.

Each installation will require activation over the internet in order to be used.

Purchased license or annual lease basis - To continue operating beyond the trial period each installation will need to be registered. During registration clients have flexible options to acquire GEM software:
  • On a purchased license basis - with or without Software Assurance
  • As an annual lease - annual or monthly payments

Clients can terminate a lease early and convert to purchase if they so wish.
